PRESTON HIRE Racing - Hunt for 2017
HOLDSWORTH ON THE HUNT FOR RESULTS AT 2017 OPENER
Preston Hire Racing’s Lee Holdsworth is prepared to hunt for results at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide for the opening round of the 2017 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
Holdsworth is looking forward to racing for the first time this year on the 3.22km South Australian track.
The Clipsal 500 this year will run a Top 10 Shootout on Saturday as well as Sunday, followed by a 250km SuperStreet Race on both days.
Preston Hire Racing finished with the 8th fastest time on the new Dunlop tyre at Sydney Motorsport Park on Tuesday, with the team learning from the valuable session.
“THE SYDNEY TEST WAS SUCCESSFUL FOR OUR TEAM, WE HAD A PRODUCTIVE DAY LEARNING AS MUCH AS WE COULD ABOUT THE NEW 2017 TYRE COMPOUNDS. I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE TEAM'S STEP UP AND PROFESSIONALISM WHICH GIVES ME MORE CONFIDENCE HEADING INTO THE SEASON.”
Holdsworth has been training extensively for the 2017 Supercars Championship and spending a lot of time in the workshop alongside the team’s new engineer Chris Stuckey.
“THERE’S BEEN A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF PREPARATION OVER THE OFF-SEASON FROM THE WHOLE TEAM. PERSONALLY, I'VE PUT A HUGE EFFORT INTO COMING BACK FITTER THAN EVER AND MAKING SURE ALL MY INJURIES FROM LAST YEAR DON’T HAVE ANY AFFECT ON MY TRAINING. APART FROM THAT I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF TIME IN THE WORKSHOP WITH THE TEAM BUT HAVE FOCUSSED PRIMARILY ON BUILDING A STRONG RELATIONSHIP WITH MY NEW ENGINEER, CHRIS STUCKEY.”
Preston Hire Racing will enter a race weekend with a new team and new look for the first time in Adelaide.
Holdsworth is aiming to finish the weekend in the Top 10 as a starting point to build from with the team.
“I’M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING BACK IN THE NEW LOOK CAR AT CLIPSAL NEXT WEEK. I THINK IT’S THE BEST LOOKING CAR ON TRACK! MY GOAL FOR ADELAIDE IS TO COME OUT OF THE WEEKEND IN THE TOP 10 IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP. WE NEED TO HAVE A SOLID START TO THE YEAR AND CONTINUE TO BUILD ON THAT PERFORMANCE EACH ROUND.”
Schwerkolt also shares the sentiment, and is confident in Holdsworth taking on the tough track in the heat.
“‘IT SEEMS FOREVER SINCE WE’VE BEEN RACING, HOWEVER, IT’S COME AROUND SO QUICK SINCE THE TEST DAY. I CAN’T WAIT TO GET TO CLIPSAL, IT’S ONE OF MY FAVOURITES BUT ONE OF THE TOUGHEST CIRCUITS ON THE CALENDAR. THE CURBS, THE HEAT AND TURN 8 ALL THROW UP DEMANDING CHALLENGES. AS A TEAM WE ARE PUMPED AND READY TO GO, I THINK LEE IS REALLY PUMPED TO TACKLE THIS HEAD ON AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN COME OUT IN THE 10 AT THE END OF THE WEEKEND. CAN’T WAIT TO SHOW OFF OUR PRESTON HIRE RACING COMMODORE TO ALL OF OUR PARTNERS AND SUPPORTERS THAT HAVE HELPED US ALONG THIS JOURNEY. SEE YOU ALL IN ADELAIDE.”
Holdsworth and the Preston Hire Racing Team are prepared for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide on March 2 to 5, with all races to be televised LIVE on Fox Sports.
